Happy MLK Day

Today seems the right day to begin posting on this beautiful new site created by TinyMission! Wow! Thanks Andy and Bekki!

It’s Martin Luther King day. Marnita’s Table was founded to increase equality. Instead of talking about ‘those people” we feast with them. It’s amazing how fast “others” become “us” when we get to know someone.

In the coming months you’ll learning about how our groundbreaking model Intentional Social Interaction (“ISI” say it “izzy”) can help you bridge race, class, culture and other means of self-identity. There’s already an app you can download and more content coming soon.

A key component in building economic success for communities of color is in having access to economic opportunity. TinyMission has helped move forward both Marnita’s Table and Marnita’s Marketplace in huge ways by partnering with us. This would have been unheard of in 1962 the year I was born.

I often speak about what it feels like to be “outside” the ring of love. Because of our work and how deep disparities are in the State of Minnesota it becomes easy to feel exhausted and overwhelmed at how long the road is ahead. Often we focus on the ways that we have not overcome. But instead, with the sun shining in my window on this January day, I’m going to reflect on the investments that have helped make my progress to date. There have been so many before me that have helped me to where I am today. It is my obligation and honor now to pay those investments forward and to continue opening doors for those I can help.

I’m counting from today as countdown to when we launch Mastering the Art of Authentic Welcome nationally the week of September 10, 2012!
