Organized by the UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center, on behalf of the Washington State Dementia Action Collaborative, with primary funding provided by the Aging and Long Term Support Administration, and with a planning committee made up of advisors from across the state.

A dementia-friendly community is a town, city or region committed to the full inclusion of people with dementia and their families in community life.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This conference is for anyone who wants to take action to make their community more dementia-friendly, including people with dementia, caregivers, and people who work in a variety of public settings:

  • Discover key steps you can take to make your community dementia-friendly, with a keynote from Casey Venturini, the lead for Dementia Friendly Nevada
  • Be empowered by in-depth breakout sessions on topics such as:
    • How a new national initiative to expand Memory Cafes can build social connection among people with dementia
    • Strategies for engaging diverse communities in dementia awareness and support
    • Hands-on demonstrations of dementia-friendly arts programs like the Frye Art Museum’s Creative Aging program
  • Be inspired by “Lightening Talks” showcasing dementia-friendly innovations – such as Amy’s Place, a new dementia-friendly community center in a Bellingham Mall

A Meaningful Meal…
During the event, enjoy a delicious catered lunch together while exploring what it means to have a dementia-friendly community. In this facilitated experience, Marnita Schroedl of Marnita’s Table will guide us through a time of sharing, learning and peer-to-peer connection. Based in Minnesota, Marnita’s Table specializes in building bridges of understanding across difference.
